Handmade in Germany. Manufactory 4.0

Since the beginning of January our new book is published: Handmade in Germany. Manufactory 4.0 presents German manufactories of the 21st century.

Manufactories from Germany have a worldwide reputation. Whether porcelain, watches, organs or writing instruments — the masterpieces with their outstanding design have their origin in the traditional craftsmanship of Central Europe.

Pascal Johanssen gives an insight into the practice and future ideas of the most important German manufactories. He arranges their unique selling points into categories such as independence, authorship, responsibility or beauty. In detailed interviews, masters of their profession provide insights into their world, always accompanied by photographs of the respective manufactories that are as aesthetic as they are informative.

Our book gives a picture of a contemporary understanding of the quality of products and their manufacture, which encompasses traditional values such as function and durability as well as current technologies and ethical principles. An exciting look into the future of the manufactory in the 21st century.
